Don't invest all in one go and invest in staggered manner like I have been building my portfolio - http://shabbir.in/portfolio

    Thanks Shabbir,

Currently I have 2 options available. Either I invest in Equity or in Mutual fund SIP. What according to you would be better?

    You can
    1. Invest in equity if you can evaluate businesses
    2. Trade if you understand chart patterns
Else SIP in mutual fund is the way to go.

    Hi Shabbir,

Can you please suggests some fund to start SIP now.
Looks like all Mid and Small cap funds run up already.
I think market is high now, investing in large cap funds is not good idea as per your articles.
Please share your ideas for time horizan of 5+ years.

    Thanks
    Veeru

SIP should be all good because it helps you phase out the runup as well as correction. I don't recommend one shot investment in funds at current levels because returns will be not as good as one must expect

For Lumpsum amount u can Invest initially in debt Mutual fund which is safe for lump sum amount and Start "STP"(Systematic Transfer Plan) to Equity MF of same fund house on a monthly basis with a small amount like SIP. Your Lumpsum amount (Debt MF)will be invested over a period of time like SIP in Equity MF. U will get some return from Debt MF also for a period till it is consumed into Equity. See below screenshot from ICICIDirect for better understanding. This is one way to deal with ur scenario.
