pay out shortage

    Hi, shabbir....i brought 125 shares of l and t at 883 on 11 oct....today i received message from broker that there is a payout shortage of 16 shares....and another message stating that they have auctioned same amount of shares at 897 rs ...the corresponding amount has been credited to my account...
    can u please throw some light on what this pay out shortage exactly means...???

    Pay out shortage means the person who sold the shares did not had any shares in his account and so you were not provided with the shares in your demat account.

    Normally they are auctioned and you should be getting them at lower rate.
